Bathukamma is a vibrant and colorful floral festival celebrated primarily in Telangana, India. It marks the arrival of Sharath Ritu (autumn) and is dedicated to Goddess Gauri, symbolizing womanhood, fertility, and the power of nature. The festival spans nine days, culminating on Saddula Bathukamma, the grand finale. Women and young girls arrange beautiful flower stacks in a unique conical shape using locally available flowers like Gummadi Puvvu (Pumpkin Flower), Thangedu, and Banthi (Marigold). In the evenings, they gather in groups, singing traditional folk songs, dancing around the Bathukamma, and later immersing it in water bodies as a tribute to nature. This festival is not just a cultural celebration but also a reflection of Telangana’s rich traditions, fostering unity, joy, and devotion among communities.
At Kakatiya University, Warangal, Bathukamma is celebrated with great enthusiasm, fostering cultural pride and unity among students. The festival serves as a platform to cherish Telangana’s traditions and bring together the academic community in a spirit of festivity and togetherness.
